My sincerest apologies for not posting in what seems like ages! I had a whirlwind trip to the U.S. and upon returning to Australia, I have had limited internet access. I hope all my family, friends, and cyberpals are doing well and that this message finds you happy and healthy in mind, body, and spirit.
My August trip was fantastic! It was so nice to catch up with folks and get a taste of Americana. I managed to visit Michigan, Florida, and Illinois. Needless to say, there were plenty of planes, trains, and automobiles involved. While stateside, I managed to do the following:
…caught up with my mom.
…changed a car battery.
…inflated 4 (!!!) car tires.
…reorganized my study/office space at home.
…ate plenty of good-though-bad-for-your-health American food.
…petted and played with my two adorable kitties.
…visited my sister in Ft. Lauderdale for her birthday.
…shipped a ridiculous amount of books to Melbourne.
…prepared for and then attended the American Political Science Association conference in Chicago.
…learned about how to fix a “running toilet.”
…engaged in yard maintenance.
…bought souvenirs.
…painted the front porch with waterproofer paint.
…experienced issues regarding race/ethnicity (which is different to matters concerning nationality when I’m abroad).
…go to the beach and do some sightseeing.
…visited my grandparents’ memorial tree.
…helped make a batch of 75 lumpia (Filipino egg rolls).
…went dancing.
…saw my cool uncles and aunties.
…received great advice regarding my dissertation.
…watched some good ol’ American television programming (tongue in cheek of course).
…listened to the wonderful variety of music on the radio.
…chatted up a storm with friends.
…missed Australia.
I am now back in Melbourne and have recently moved to the lovely suburb of Sunshine. I really appreciate the diversity, friendliness, and accessibility of the place. I have been enjoying evening walks and trying new things here.
I will try to post pictures after the broadband gets connected… Dial-up is too slow at the moment.
Cheers!
:)
